“Our school is committed to having an active board that is diverse and inclusive and reflective of the community we serve. More information is available upon request from the school office."
The Governing Body of St Ursula’s Catholic Primary School will endeavour to operate at a strategic level, leaving the school’s senior leadership responsible and accountable for the operational day-to-day running of the school. The Governing Body’s overarching duty is the preservation and development of the Catholic character of the school. Its core strategic functions, as a Governing board, therefore, are in the following:
- Ensuring clarity of Catholic vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the appropriate senior leadership to account for the educational performance and Catholic character of the school and its pupils; and for the internal organisation, management and control of the school, including performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
Governor Pen Portraits
Mr A Shaw
I am happy to have been appointed as a Foundation Governor for the newly combined St. Ursula’s Catholic Primary School.
I am very pleased to be working as part of an institution within a Catholic community. I have been a teacher myself for 10 years in both Dagenham and more recently in Woodford Green.
I have experience both as a classroom practitioner as well as a leader of my own department. I do hope my insight and experience can contribute to what I see as an already outstanding school.
I have joined the Curriculum Committee, where we all feel I can contribute most. However, I hope to foster other links with the school where my skills are useful.
Having two young boys myself, as well as teaching for the last decade, I passionately understand the importance of education from a young age and intend to support all staff in continuing their outstanding educational delivery within our school.
If you need to contact the Chair of Governors please write or email the school.
Mr S Chinamo
Being a governor has been a thrilling experience and I would not change it for anything else.
I was fortunate enough to be appointed a Foundation Governor in 2012 when the schools were still Infant and Junior Schools and my daughter was in Year 3 at the time. I was re-appointed when the schools merged to be a federated school and now as a Primary school.
My main focus has been around Health and Safety ensuring that the premises are safe for the children and staff of St Ursula’s and during this time there have been significant improvements to the school that continues to be well maintained.
My professional background is in Food Manufacturing incorporated with Storage and Distribution and the skills I have gained in these sectors have helped me in what I do as a governor. This helps me to challenge and support the leadership team of St Ursula’s to continue to have very high standards for the school.
I belong to the Resources and Curriculum committees.
Mrs S Ominiyi
I have been a Foundation governor at St Ursula’s since 2014, having been first appointed in the Infant School. I am a member of the Resources Committee. I am honoured to continue serving the school and to contribute to its continued success.
I qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) with Grant Thornton and spent 9 years in the audit practice. I have 7 years public sector experience in senior finance roles having previously worked as Financial Controller for a multi-academy trust and Head of Financial Accounting for an NHS Trust. I am experienced with budgeting, financial reporting and auditing.
I am married with 3 children, all currently attending St Ursula’s.
Mr P Fielder
I have been working at St. Ursula’s Catholic Primary School as a teacher for the past 5 years.
I began my career at the age of 24 as a student teacher in Year 3 and I am now currently a teacher in Year 6 leading two subjects, Modern Foreign Languages and Physical Education.
My love for learning began when I started to prepare for my GSCEs whilst attending Campion; having the opportunity to be more independent in my studies led me to appreciate the pursuit of knowledge.
I took time to examine my interests such as history, film, and the great outdoors and then explored how I could develop these interests. My fascination for religion led me to achieve a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Theology, Philosophy and Religious Studies and my love for nature motivated me to complete the Camino de Santiago.
Teaching requires a lot from a person; it is a dynamic profession forever evolving and adapting. It is for this reason why I love teaching. Every lesson you teach, every interaction with a parent or a child will result in you learning something new about your profession.
I am very excited about representing my fellow colleagues on the board of Governors and working with the other Governors to ensure that St. Ursula’s keeps its well-deserved status as an outstanding school.
Mr K Ashburn
I was appointed the Headteacher of St Ursula’s Catholic Primary School in September 2020. It is a privilege to have been chosen by the school Governors and entrusted with the job of leading such a fantastic school.
I have worked at St Ursula’s for ten years but what you may not know is that I also grew up in Harold Hill and attended St Ursula’s as a pupil – this school holds a special place in my heart. Therefore, I am determined that the school builds on its legacy and continues to flourish and maintain its position at the heart of our community.
It is important now, more than ever, that we live out our Mission Statement: “With God at the heart of our St Ursula’s family, we welcome all as we learn and grow together.”
From my experience of being a part of the St Ursula’s family, I know that the successes of the school have depended on all pupils, parents, Staff, Governors and the Diocese working closely together.
Mr A Doyle
I was extremely pleased to be elected to be a parent governor for St Ursula’s Catholic School and I hope to be able to make a positive contribution to the school community.
I have two son’s in KS2 and twin babies who will be joining the school in a few years’ time. My wife is primary school teacher who has worked in the junior school and my eldest son lives in Ireland.
I come from a strong Catholic background, having attended Christian Brothers primary and secondary schools in Ireland.
For the past ten years I have worked as an emergency gas engineer, as well as running my own gas company. I am also a fully qualified carpenter and joiner, which was my trade after leaving school until I moved to London.
I have also had some experience teaching woodwork to teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds.
I am very passionate about the mental and physical well-being of children. I believe they need to learn in a safe and happy environment in order to achieve their full potential.
